Driftboat trips -- fly-fishing for trout on the Hiwassee River at Reliance, TN

Float-fishing/fly-fishing for trout on the Hiwassee River at Reliance, TNHome to some of southeast Tennessee’s best fly-fishing for trout and spin-fishing for smallmouth bass, the Hiwassee River offers excellent float-trips for the avid fisherman. It's truly a fisherman's adventure when you fish this stunning riverway, listed by Congress among the national scenic rivers. Up to 20 miles of the river flows wide through high ridges, sheer bluffs and a pastoral valley where you're sure to find your angler's taste for action!

Rainbows dominate the trout fishery of the Hiwassee River, but there's plenty of brown trout in the river that give fly-fishermen a great shot at taking a trophy fishWeather you are a novice or an experienced angler, the Hiwassee River provides you with many opportunities to challenge your fly-fishing and spin-fishing abilities. Rainbow and brown trout are the feature fish on the river, which in 2012 included the first season for "delayed harvest" trout fishing. Smallmouth bass are a feature fish lower in the valley, and we've got a few secrets that can put anglers on the fighting end of a tussle with striped bass! When the power generators at Smith Creek Powerhouse are running, our drift-boats carry you to the pools, runs, lanes and holes where trout take flies, spinners and spoons. When  the generators are off it is a wading angler's paradise, with miles and miles of river that can be accessed on foot.

Toccoa River at Blue Ridge, GA

Upper Toccoa River Float TripsUpper Toccoa River Float Trips -- brook troutThe Toccoa River -- north Georgia's longest cold-water river -- collects springs, seeps, branches and creeks in the high forestlands of Fannin and Union counties. All that clear and cold water eventually grows large enough to provide winter, spring, summer and fall opportunities to float-fish for rainbow, brown and brook trout in both the upper and lower river, separated by still more warm-water fishing opportunities in scenic Lake Blue Ridge.

The beautiful "upper river" float trips take place on the Toccoa through the community of Dial. Along its path here, it flows through pastoral lands and among high ridges -- all adding to the outstanding experience found by fly-rodders and spin-tackle anglers alike. The 4-mile float includes the mile-long "delayed harvest" section of the Toccoa, where catch-and-release fishing regulations from Nov. 1 to May15 keep fish numbers high and the action swinging! Brookies, browns and 'bows make up the catch all along the float, with fish averaging 12 to 15 inches, along with some true trophy trout caught frequently.

The Toccoa River tailwater at Blue Ridge is arguably Georgia's best trout fisheryAfter collecting in Lake Blue Ridge, the Toccoa pours from Blue Ridge Dam into
a
14-mile-long tailwater trout fishery that begins just beyond the city limits of Blue Ridge and ends at the quaint border town of McCayesville. The  year-round cold
water of the
"lower Toccoa" supports a prolific bug and forage population that feeds a thriving trout fishery that challenges the reputation for Georgia's finest tailwater trout fishery.

Fly-fishing on the lower Toccoa River tailwater frequently produces nice brown trout, many that measure over 20 inches longBoth wild and stocked brown and rainbow trout take flies of all kinds on the lower Toccoa , while our anglers follow strict catch-and-release fishing ethics. Strip streamers, tumble nymphs and float dry flies through boulder runs, deep pools, shady laydowns and rippling shoals. Catches commonly include fish in the 10- to 12-inch range, but trophy brown and rainbow trout -- 15 inches and longer! -- frequently surprise anglers with smashing strikes, spectacular jumps and driving runs. Even larger trout are sometimes seen ... and hooked!

 Float Trips Operated Year 'Round!

The float-trips offered by Reel Angling Adventures puts you in touch in all seasons with both rainbow and brown trout, whether you're fly-fishing or spin-fishing. All trips include transportation to and from locally strategic pick-up points, properly scaled tackle (if needed), our recommendations for your selection of seasonally chosen dry flies and nymphs, soft drinks and bottled water and a selection of photos for your memories. Full-day trips also include a deli-styled lunch.

Float trips are scheduled for one or two anglers for full-day (8 to 10 hours) and half-day (5 hours) trips, dependent on the powerhouse generation flows. Trips begin between 7 am and 10 am and are completed between 5 pm and 8 pm, depending on the season and the power-generation flows.
