Home to southeast Tennessee’s best trout fishing (and spin-fishing for smallmouth bass), the Hiwassee River at Reliance offers excellent float-trips and wade-trips for the avid trout fisherman. It's truly a fisherman's adventure when you fish on the state's first scenic river. Up to 20 miles of the river flows wide through high ridges, sheer bluffs, whitewater shoals and a pastoral valley.
Novice or pro angler ... you're sure to find many opportunities to challenge your fly-fishing and spin-tackle trout-fishing abilities. Rainbow and brown trout are the feature fish on the river, which in 2012 included the first season for "delayed harvest" trout fishing. Brook trout are often included in the summer stockings that take place every other week from May through August.
Trip Description
When the power generators at Appalachia Powerhouse are running, our drift-boats carry you from 2 to 7 miles (dependent on trip duration, half- and full-day) to the pools, runs, lanes and holes where trout take flies, spinners and spoons. When the generators are off it is a wading angler's paradise, with miles and miles of wide river shoals and braided water that can be accessed for trout fishing on foot. Wading shoals are often a quarter-mile long long and up to a 250 yards wide.
Fully equipped trout-fishing Float Trips depart the landing depending on daily water flows from the Appalachia Powerhouse. Boats may encounter Class II and III whitewater. Wade trips take place on one or more selected shoals and sections of the river, based on the guide's experience.
Guided fishing includes guide/boat, rods/reels, lures/flies, tackle accessories and bottled water. Full-day trips include deli-styled lunch. Anglers are personally responsible for proper fishing licenses, proper waders/boots (as required).
