Our Wild Trout Experience
Unlike floating the larger rivers, a trout trek with Reel Angling Adventures is a stealthy, active adventure through the deep woods. Because these remote streams receive very little fishing pressure, you will encounter incredibly eager fish that are highly responsive to well-placed dry flies and nymphs. On a single trek, we have the opportunity to target three distinct, beautiful species:
- Native Brookies: The true gems of the Southern Appalachians. We hike into the upper watersheds to target vibrant, native brook trout in their historic, crystal-clear home waters.
- Wild Rainbows: Lightning-fast and full of fight, these stream-born rainbows thrive in the plunging pools and rushing pocket water of our high-altitude creeks.
- Wild Browns: For the angler looking for a challenge, the deeper, shaded log jams and undercut banks hide cautious, beautifully colored wild brown trout.
The Upper Toccoa River Watershed
With more than 30 years experience of fishing the streams of the Upper Toccoa River watershed, we've got a unique handle on how to find and fish some of the most productive, isolated streams in North Georgia that hold wild rainbow, brown and brook trout.
Before the Toccoa River widens into Georgia's second-largest trout-filled tailwater, it begins as a collection of tiny, cold feeder streams high in the mountains. Reel Angling Adventures fishing guides lead you onto these tributary streams where you can catch the grand slam of Georgia trout fishing -- browns, 'bows and brookies -- all in a single day!

Coopers Creek & Tributaries (Suches, GA)
Located in the heart of the deep woods near Suches, Georgia, Coopers Creek collects one of the two largest tributary systems of the Toccoa River.
You won't see our guides at roadside here. These hike-in destinations reveal an incredible network of shaded, semi-remote mountain streams that are perfect for active wade-fishing, rock-hopping and bushwhacking to find rainbows, browns and brookies in pristine pockets of water surrounded by some of Georgia's wildest forestlands.
Noontootla Creek & Tributaries (Dial, GA)
It meets the Toccoa River near Dial, GA, 10 miles farther downstream than the Coopers Creek confluence, but Noontootla Creek collects headwaters that flow off some of the highest ridges of Fannin County's Blue Ridge Mountains.
Scaling small waterfalls and ducking through rhododendron thickets characterize a day's fly-fishing on the tributaries, while roadside pull-outs on the main-stem Noontootla Creek offer "tame" access between campsites to more than 6 miles of plunge pools, riffles and tail-outs that form Georgia's first special-regulation trout stream.
Year-Round Backcountry Fly-Fishing
While many trout waters across North Georgia grow too warm to fish year 'round, the high-elevation mountain tributaries of the Upper Toccoa River offer incredible year-round fly-fishing opportunities.
- Spring & Summer: The forest canopy keeps the water temperatures safely cool, creating explosive terrestrial and dry-fly action where eager trout smash bugs on the surface.
- Autumn & Winter: When the leaves drop, the mountains become incredibly quiet. Early fall fishing centers on spawning brown trout. Winter brings clear, exceptionally cold water that supports spawning brook trout in November, followed by highly focused fishing on incredibly clear water in rewarding backcountry escapes draped with the solitude of winter in the North Georgia woodlands.
